Stoke Abbott

This very pretty hamstone village is set in a steep winding valley, and you can easily imagine how it was to live here hundreds of years ago, as so much character has been preserved. You can still walk the green lanes and tracks dating from medieval times – the area has some of the finest walking for many miles.

St Mary’s is a fine 12th Century church to explore, and there is an excellent village pub, The New Inn, serving delicious freshly-cooked bar meals.

The Stoke Abbott Street Fair is held every July (17th in 2017) – with all the fun of a friendly community event – tea and cakes, a BBQ, stalls and games, fancy dress and a procession – and of course, cider and beer. Step back in time in this unspoilt haven!
